ARTS IN THE PARLOR - YOUTH SERIES - FALL 2023

The Paul Robeson House & Museum is planning an exciting “Arts in the Parlor” program this fall, and we’d like to showcase your talented child.

The program offers youths an opportunity to show off their talents in the same parlor where the versatile Paul Robeson sang the last years of his life and the house where he lived with his sister in West Philadelphia.

We are seeking youths 16 and under with a variety of talents, including singing, dancing, poetry, art, cooking, crafts, music and other creative expressions.

Details:

– Presentations/performances will be held on Sundays from October to November 2023.

– Events will be both live and virtual.

Parents and guardians can CLICK HERE to complete an application giving permission for your child to participate.

The children came to visit Paul Robeson on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Not alone but with their parents to learn about the life and contributions of this extraordinary man.

We were overjoyed. We love telling young people the story of a man who was brilliant, courageous, and outspoken in speech and song about the dignity of African Americans and people all over world. We have a depth of appreciation to, among others, the mother who brought her seven children, to another who arrived with a little girl and to the couple who brought three children.

One docent told of a young boy curious about the year of Robeson’s death and found the answer in our pamphlet. The child was both inquisitive and industrious. Wonderful.

We thank all who came out to soak in Robeson’s legacy (and not the rain, which finally subsided in the afternoon) and enjoy our new exhibit – a scrapbook of photos and paraphernalia from our 125th Paul Robeson Birthday Celebration April 8-15, 2023. The exhibit includes a spiral binder of our vignettes from Robeson’s life – the series we ran in February to kick off our celebration.
